TGOC2011 – Day 7 – Rest day

By pushing on to Aviemore I could now afford to have a rest day and, after walking a few more miles through the Rothiemurchus Forest, spent my time eating, reading the paper, washing & drying clothes and relaxing.

The weather forecast was looking bad for tomorrow and, even though that’s what I expect for the Lairig Ghru, I was a bit worried that I would have to use my Foul Weather Alternative which was longer and would mean re-jigging the next couple of days.  It was a phone-in day, so I called Challenge Control and was quite relieved that they weren’t advising people to avoid the Lairig.

One of my first back-packing trips, before I’d even heard of the TGO Challenge, was from Aviemore to Braemar via the Lairig Ghru (and back) in the most atrocious rain and gales, so I was expecting the worst for the morning.
